As a forensic psychiatric clinic, Medbo was seeking a solution to reintroduce a sense of self management into their care pathway. With clients needing effective means of communication at all times while maintaining safety standards, Medbo turned to Recornect to provide them a piloted solution.
The CoWin Halo allowed Medbo to create a safe communication channel between clients in their time-out space and the staff. CoWins ligature, shock, and temper resistant design allows maximum security to be maintained. Clients who are escalated are able to be isolated while still maintaining that communication window to the staff
The time-out space in the acute-psychiatry unit saw de-escalation at earlier stages, less aggression in the unit overall, a reduction in work pressure for the staff, and good feelings about the more humane approach taken by use of the CoWin media wall. Following the success of the time-out space and another in a client’s apartment, Medbo has expanded the deployment of CoWin in their practice with 4 more media walls in their psychiatric unit.
